Gerhard Winkler was born many moons ago in Berlin, Germany. His experiences of the ravages of war and later encounters with the victors of WWII are reflected in some of his writings. He came to Canada with his wife and two children in 1957. He worked all of his life in the construction industry and actively participated as a volunteer on many levels in the community. He was awarded a medal from the Governor General of Canada in 1992 in recognition of significant contributions to compatriots, community and Canada.
Gerhard was married to Charlotte for over fifty-four years and they have raised five children. Charlotte passed away on April 19, 2007. Gerhard enjoys the outdoors and many of his travel experiences were published in RV Magazines in Canada and the USA.
Gerhard belongs to various writer’s organizations and had essays and short stories published in several Chapbooks and Anthologies. He is a member of the ‘Rogue Writers’ group and has been for over for fifteen years. I had a great evening yesterday attending a reading and lecture by Stan Persky at the North Vancouver City Library. This was only the first of several presentations in local author series put on by the library. There will be one presentation every month.
I am honoured to be invited on April 18 next year together with my friends of the Rogue Writers Group.
Merry Christmas to all who will read this.

Thank you Tove for your heartwarming open letter to me which is published in the current NSWA newsletter.
